Hospitality St. Peter’s – The Process

January through April, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022 (time out for Covid in 2020 and 2021) we shared meals in small groups in each other’s homes. There was one gathering per month for each participant, and each participant served as host one month and took a dish to another home for sharing the other three months. It is a great way to enjoy fellowship and get to know each other better.

Now we are ready to go again in January through April of 2023. For inspiration, and to get an idea of how this works, take a look at these photos from the 2022 meals.

This is for couples and singles. Group size is normally 6 to 8. There is a simple form for signing up, deadline December 18th, after which the meals will be arranged to give each of us an evening with the maximum number of participants over the four month period. It takes a few days to get the schedule worked out, but the plan is to have the schedule emailed to all participants before January 1. That is the reason for the December 18th deadline.

Scheduling of the dinners is completely flexible and is the responsibility of the hosts. Hosts for January will send an email by the first day of the month to those coming to their home proposing a few possible dates. Ask the invitees to “respond all” to the email. Participants must “respond all” promptly about their availability. Once the date is established, the host will decide on a main course to be provided and inform the other participants who will then bring an appropriate side dish, salad, bread, desert, or beverage. All that is negotiable between the participants and the host.

It sounds complicated, but past participants will tell you it is really very simple and just a lot of fun.

Table size doesn’t matter. Some hosts will use two tables. Sometimes we have sat around in a living area to eat. By April, outside dining may be in order. There are no rules other than to be friendly and have a good time.

If you would like to participate but are not in a position to host, sign up as a substitute. We will do our best to be sure all substitutes get assigned to one meal, and they may get calls for others as well.

And be sure to take a group photo and email it to dkwilliams2007@gmail.com for inclusion in the Hospitality St. Peter’s Photo Album!
